In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the education and training of others in Middle East Studies and Turkish Studies. With deep appreciation for his inexhaustible power to coax, encourage and inspire language learning from students of wildly differing aptitudes; and his ability to instill such a love of the Turkish language and Turkish culture that details such as grammar, modals, agglutinative sequencing, and vowel harmony become seductive challenges rather than insurmountable obstacles. It is an honor to recognize Ralph Jaeckel, an outstanding mentor who, through his selfless and passionate teaching and his delight in working with different minds and creating instructional materials nuanced to suit them, has encouraged the careers of generations of students and colleagues.
