The Department of Public Administration and International Affairs (PAIA) and the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) at the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs seek to appoint the Becker Family Professor of Practice in Conflict and Collaboration. This full-time, two-year position (with a contingent option for extension) is expected to begin in August 2025. Compensation will be commensurate with the professional experience of the appointee and includes full benefits. We seek candidates with at least five years of “hands-on,” professional experience at a high level in either domestic or international contexts. Candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree, demonstrate expertise in conflict resolution, partnership-building, and collaboration, and provide evidence of leadership across political divides and other contributions to public affairs and practice. Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching and be able to bridge theory and practice in a variety of skills-based courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Successful candidates must be committed to working with and mentoring diverse student and community populations and engaging in service to the program, college, university, and profession. Engaging in research is desirable, but not mandatory.

The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is home to the social science disciplines at Syracuse University and is ranked #1 in the nation for graduate education in public affairs, according to the 2024 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools. The successful candidate will be based in PARCC, an interdisciplinary center that advances research, education, and practice in conflict analysis and resolution, collaborative problem solving, and collaborative governance, and will have the opportunity to work with several of the other research centers across the Maxwell School.
